My Love for Autumn

autumn

My friends, I just love it.  It is my favourite season, hands down. Come with me, and I will show you why. Step out of the door and look at the trees, turning golden in the dazzling sunshine before she lowers early to bed. Feel the excitement in the air as the fires are lit, the apple and cinnamon cider is warmed, and the nights draw in. Walk in the park, just so you can feel the crunch of orange leaves beneath your feet as the bobbles on the children’s hats bounce in time with their pattering feet. Pull the blanket close around your feet as you snuggle up in the twinkling lamplight, the dulcet tones of Eva telling you of how she misses you, her darling. Sit in a church, lit only by candles and spotlights, and listen to Keaton as he plays his guitar and sings of heartache. Splash home in your hunters, through the puddles, your heart already set on the pumpkin soup bubbling on the stove. Arise in the crisp morning air and roam the misty fields, seeing – if you’re blessed – the shy dancing of a young deer.

Tell the man of your life that you will love him for the rest of your days, that you will be next to him through it all, and that you will be the best you can be.

‘Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree.’ – Emily Bronte
